an acclaimed Czech author, known above all for his novel Zvlčení – Romaneto o vlcích, lidech a úkazech / Growing Wild – a Tale of Mystery and Imagination about Wolves, Humans, and Phenomena; this novel was awarded the Magnesia Litera Prize for prose in 2004, and has been translated into Byelorussian,  Hungarian, Slovenian, Russian and Bulgarian

his latest novel Na krásné modré Dřevnici / On the Beautiful Blue Dřevnice (Host, 2009) was awarded the State Prize for Literature (2010) and nominated for two more domestic literary prizes
