Let the Hare Run

Kabbalah, Žižkov, 1911. Something is about to happen.

Max Kanarfogel receives a letter from a friend asking him to come to Vienna. The friend needs to speak with him urgently. Something bad is coming, and it’s supposed to arrive in Prague. If it does, the consequences will be catastrophic.

Can two occasional Kabbalists prevent something about which they have so little information? And where does the ominous growling that’s terrifying the youth of Žižkov fit in? Is this just a hysterical delusion, or is there serious cause for concern? So far, nothing has happened…

The author draws the reader into the picturesque world of old Prague, a seemingly idyllic backdrop in which growing restlessness foreshadows a new, darker era.

‘I carry ideas for novels around in my head for ages,’ says the author. ‘Time will show if one in particular is worth a few years of my life; if the obsession is powerful enough. I know exactly when and where the idea for The Hare first came to me. It was spring 1991, in Žižkov, on my way to a pub. The pub is still there, though it’s changed a lot. The same can be said of my idea.’
