Viktorie Hanišová's books have been published in thirteen languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, English, German, Greek, Italian, Latvian, Macedonian, Polish, Serbian and Spanish. Rights have been sold to Albania.
Bio:
Viktorie Hanišová (born 1980) debuted in 2015 with the well-received novel Anežka /Anežka, about the dysfunctional relationship of a mother and her adoptive daughter, concealed racism and stereotyping. Her novel The Mushroom Gatherer / Houbařka (2018) looks at trauma in childhood and domestic violence. The loose trilogy of novels addressing motherhood and trauma was completed in 2019 by Reconstruction / Rekonstrukce, which is about coming to terms with a parent’s suicide. In 2020, she published A Long Track / Dlouhá trať, a collection of short stories exploring various life crises. She returned a year later with Concrete and Clay / Beton a hlína (2021), in which she explores through interviews the possibilities of sustainable living in cities. Her most recent novel, Sunday Afternoon / Neděle odpoledne (2022), returns to the theme of repressed family trauma. Her political novel Daddy's Burning / Hoří ti táta is forthcomming in May 2026.
Viktorie Hanišová is a graduate in English and German from Charles University, Prague. She works as a translator and language teacher.
