Petr Hanel lived in the Netherlands from 2015, where he worked as a production director. In his free time, he pursued writing and studied storytelling and Anglo-American dramaturgy.
In 2022, he moved to Prague to dedicate himself fully to literature and film—whether on set (Zápisník alkoholičky, Sbormistr, Fichtelberg), or behind the scenes as a dramaturge, editor, and consultant.
He is the founder of the platform and Instagram profile Klub psáčů (“Writers’ Club”), where he popularizes the craft and technical side of writing. In the podcast of the same name, he interviews writers, screenwriters, and publishers.
His debut novel, You Don’t Know Sh*t About the Stars / O hvězdách víš h*vn*, took nine years to complete. After its release by Host publishing, it received enthusiastic reader feedback, won the HumbookAwards Debut of the Year, was published as an audiobook, and a German translation is currently in preparation.
Hanel is a fan of Cormac McCarthy and Christopher Nolan, and an avid urbexer who has independently explored sites like Chernobyl and the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
